Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide the alloy having superior absorptivity even when used at ≤300°C and also excellent in crushability by adding specific amounts of Al and Nb and/or Ta to Zr.

CONSTITUTION: This nonevaporation-type getter alloy has a composition consisting of, by weight, 5-20% Al, 0.1-15% Nb and/or Ta, and the balance Zr. In the above alloy, Al has a function of forming Zr-Al intermetallic compound to improve crushability, and, crushability is deteriorated when its content is less than 5%, and, when it exceeds 20%, respective contents of Zr or Nb and/or Ta are reduced because Al itself has no gas absorptivity, and as a result, gas absorptivity of the alloy is reduced. Nb and Ta have a function of remarkably increasing the amount of gas absorbed, and, as to their contents, the increase in the amount of absorption is reduced when they are less than 0.1% and, on the other hand, the amount of absorption and crushability are rapidly reduced when they exceed 15%.
