Abstract:

To obtain an optically stable thiophene compd. or its compsn. showing high nonlinearity and having fast relaxing time by incorporating a specified polythiophene.

The material contains at least one kind of polythiophene having structural units expressed by formula I and formula II. In formulae I and II, X, Y are straight-chain or branched-chains alkyl groups having 1 to 22 carbon atoms or straight-chain of branched-chain alkoxyl groups having 1 to 22 carbon atoms, or X and Y with atoms bonded to these may form a cyclic structure containing carbon atoms. The cyclic structure contains not only carbon atoms but nitrogen (N) heteroatoms, oxygen (O) heteroatoms, sulfur (S) heteroatoms or (P) phosphorus heteroatoms or two or more kinds of these heteroatoms. Moreover, the cyclic structure may have substltuents Z on the position of carbon atoms, nitrogen atoms or phosphorus atoms, and each Z independently represents the same groups as defined as X and Y.
