To provide a nonlinear polyester resin for toner and a toner to be used as a dry toner for developing an electrostatic charge image or a magnetic latent image and good for fixability and charge stability and small in stains on a heat fixing means.
This nonlinear polyester resin for the toner is composed of (1) a 1-30 mol% tri- or more-valent alcoholic component and/or such carboxylic acid component of the total acid components, (2) a 15-110 mol% aromatic diol component, of the total acid components, having a specified structure represented by the formula, (3) a 10-110 mol% aliphatic diol component of the total acid components, (4) a 70-100 mol% dicarboxylic acid component of the total acid components, and this resin has a softening point of 100-170°C and an acid value of 0.5-20 mg KOH/g and a content of the aliphatic diol component occurring at the time of heating is ≤50 ppm. In the formula, R is a ≤3C alkylene group, and each of x and y is a positive number satisfying the following expression: 2.0≤x+y≤7.0.
