PURPOSE: To obtain a low fabric-weight padding cloth further reduced in fabric weight, having a more excellent soft touch and made of finer fibers in comparison with a low fabric-weight padding cloth produced by the conventional technique and excellent in softness and touch.
CONSTITUTION: An island-sea type fiber (a) composed of a high-melting polymer as the sea component and a low-melting polymer as the island component, soluble in water on the whole and having a thermo-compression bonding property and another fiber (b) containing one or more kinds of other hot-melt type fibers are blended and subjected to formation of web and thermocompression treatment according to the conventional method to form a nonwoven fabric. The obtained nonwoven fabric is washed with water to remove the fiber (a), thus producing the objective low fabric-weight padding cloth made of the fiber (b).
