Abstract:
PURPOSE:To efficiently obtain the subject copolymer, having a high molecular weight and excellent in mechanical properties, heat resistance, transparency and fluidity by copolymerizing a norbornene-based monomer with a styrene- based monomer using a specific catalyst. CONSTITUTION:The objective copolymer is obtained by copolymerizing a norbornene-based monomer expressed by formula I (R<1> to R<12> are H, 1-20C hydrocarbon, etc.; (n) is an integer of >=0) with a styrene-based monomer expressed by formula II (R<13> is H, halogen, etc.; (m) is 1-3), preferably at -10 to +120 deg.C using a catalyst consisting essentially of a nickel compound component [preferably dicarbonylbis(triphenylphosphine)nickel] and an aluminoxane component. The aforementioned copolymer is composed of units expressed by formulas III and IV at 0.01-0.95 molar ratio of the units expressed by formula IV to the whole and has >=10<4> weight-average molecular weight measured by gel permeation chromatography.
