Abstract:

The invention relates to anthracycline derivatives of the general formula I in which one of the substituents R1 and R2 is a hydrogen atom and the other is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; R3 is a daunosaminyl, 4-epi-daunosaminyl, 3,4-bis-epi-daunosaminyl or 4-deoxydaunosaminyl group or an N-trifluoroacetyl derivative thereof; R4 is an alkyl group with 1 to 4 carbon atoms; and R5 is a hydrogen atom or a hydroxyl group, and the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof. The anthracycline derivatives I are suitable as antitumour agents. Pharmaceuticals which contain these compounds are also described.
