Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL:The anthracyclinone compound of formulaI[when R1 is H and R4 is OH, then R2 is CH2COCH3 and R3 is COCH2CH3 or COCH=C(OH)CH2 CH3, or R2 and R3 together form the group of formula IIWIV; or when R1 is OH and R4 is H, then R2 and R3 together form the group of formula III].
USE: An intermediate of an anthracycline glycoside antibiotic substance useful as an antitumor agent and antibacterial agent.
PROCESS: Streptomyces galilaeus MA144-M1 ANR-58 (FERM-P No.5081) obtained by the conventional mutagenic treatment of Streptomyces galilaeus MA144-M1 with ultraviolet ray, is cultured in a nutrient medium for the production of antibiotic substance by actinomycetes, and the compound of formulaIis separated from the cultured liquid.
