NEW MATERIAL:The antibiotic substance YS-02931K-β of formula.
USE: It has strong antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive bacteria, yeasts and fungi, exhibits the activity especially against cutaneous fungi and Gram-positive bacteria and is useful as a medicinal drug.
PREPARATION: A microbial strain belonging to Nocardia genus and capable of producing YS-02931K-β substance, e.g. Nocardia sp YS-02931K strain (FERM P-7962) is cultured, and the titled compound is separated from the culture liquid. The cultivation is carried out by the method for the cultivation of conventional microorganisms and preferably by the submerged cultivation in liquid medium. Any medium containing nutrient source assimilable by Nocardia sp YS-02931K strain may be used as the medium for the present cultivation.
