NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I (Ar is phenyl or naphthyl; R1 is methyl, ethyl or isopropyl; R2 is H or methyl; R1 and R2 together with the carbon atom to which they linked form a cycloalkyl; R3 is the backbone radical of an alcohol commonly used in the form of R3OH in the case of pyrethroid).
EXAMPLE: 1-(3-Phenyoxyphenyl)-4-(4-methoxyphenyl)-4-methypentane.
USE: An insecticide and acaricide having improved rapid acting and residual effects and further flashing effect, and capable of knocking down injurious insects not only to death but also with the repellent effect.
PROCESS: A ketone of formula II is reacted with an aldehyde of the formula R12CHO (R12 is the backbone radical of an alcohol commonly used in the form of R12CH2OH in the case of a synthetic pyrethroid) to give an α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compound of formula III, which is then reduced to afford the aimed compound of formula I (R3 is R12CH2).
