Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a new substance, harimecin A, having an anti-microalgal activity and useful as an antifouling agent against microalgae forming slims on ship bottoms and marine structures and as a controlling agent against red tides mainly caused by themicroalgae.
CONSTITUTION: A novel chemical substance, harimecin A, represented by the formula. The compound is obtained by culturing an microorganism, e.g. Fusarium species FE-71-1 (FERM-BP-13910), belonging to the genus Fusarium and having an ability to produce the harimecin A, and subsequently collecting the harimecin A produced and accumulated in the culture product. The harimecin A exhibits an anti-microalgal activity against Skeletonema costatum NIES-16, Oscillatoria amphibia NIES-361, Brachiomonas submarina NIES-375, and Prorocentrum micans NIES-12.
