To obtain a coating material for metal surface, comprising a primer layer, a specific adhesive layer and a thermoplastic polymer layer and capable of simply imparting (salt) water resistance to metal, because the adhesive layer exhibits high adhesiveness independently of coating time and a material of other layer.
This coating material comprises (A) a primer layer comprising a primer capable of gelling and curing, e.g. an epoxy primer, (B) an adhesive layer comprising an adhesive containing a catalyst such as 1,4- diazabicyclo[2,2,2]octane or methyl-2-imidazole [e.g. a polymer functionalized by grafting or copolymerizing a functional monomer such as an unsaturated carboxylic acid (anhydride), its derivative or an unsaturated epoxide, concretely, polyethylene, polypropylene, etc., grafted with maleic anhydride and (C) a thermoplastic polymer layer comprising a thermoplastic polymer such as polyethylene or polypropylene. Furthermore, the component B contains preferably a catalyst in an amount of 0.005-2.5wt.% based on weight of adhesive.
