Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide the subject novel compound effective for imparting polyacetals useful as engineering plastics with new function and characteristics through its copolymerization with trioxane.

CONSTITUTION: The objective compound of the formula (X is COOR3 or CONR4 R5; R1 and R3-R5 are each H or 1-4C alkyl; R2 is 1-20C divalent aliphatic group or aromatic group; (i) is 1-5; (j) is 0-20; (p) is 0-3), for example, 4-(4-carboxy-2- oxabutyl)-1,3-dioxorane. This compound can be obtained by reaction of glycerol with acrylonitrile to convert into a diol, which is then allowed to react with formaldehyde followed by hydrolysis.
