Abstract:

NEW MATERIAL:3-Isopropyl-5-bromomethyl-2-oxazolidinone of formula I.

USE: A synthetic intermediate for a number of compounds having isopropylaminopropane side chain and having medical activity.

PROCESS: The compound of formula I is prepared by reacting epibromohydrin of formula II with isopropyl isocyanate of formula III in the presence of a lithium halogenide in the absence of a solvent, at 80W150°C, pref. 90W120°C. The amounts of the raw materials are preferably stoichiometric.
