NEW MATERIAL:The diaminomonocarboxylic acid derivative of formula I or II(R1CO is aliphatic acyl; R2WR4 are alkyl or aralkyl; R5 is O-, OH, NH2, or lower alkoxy; X- is halogen anion, inorganic acid anion or organic acid anion, provided that when R5 is O- or at least one of R2WR4 is group of formula III, then X- is absent; n is 1W4).
EXAMPLE: Iodo-Nα,Nα,Nα-trimethyl-N-lauroyllysine methyl ester.
USE: A surface active agent. It exhibits excellent surface active property and remarkably improved solubility in water, and has distinguished antistatic property.
PROCESS: The compound of formula I can be prepared e.g. by using a diaminomonocarboxylic acid as a starting compound, and carrying out the long-chain acylation of an amino group of the molecule and the conversion of the other amino group to quaternary ammonium, and if necessary, carrying out the conversion of the carboxyl group in the molecule to ester or amide, and the introduction of the anion X-.
