Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide the novel diphenyl ether-based diisocyanate having a substituent at the 3-position and useful as an isocyanate component in the production of polyurethane resins.
CONSTITUTION: A diphenyl ether-based diisocyanate of formula I (R is halogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy), e.g. 3-methyl-4,4'-dissocyanatodiphenyl ether of formula II. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting a compound such as 4-amino-3-cresol or 4-amino-3-methoxyphenol with p-nitrohalogenobenzene in the presence of a base, hydrogenating the resultant 4-nitro-4'- amino-3'-substituted diphenyl ether and finally reacting the resultant 3- substituted-4,4'-diaminodiphenyl ether with phosgene. When the compound of formula I is used for producing an urethane product, the commercial value and productivity of the product is improved without any defect typified by the shortage of filling.
