Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL:Diterpene quinone of the formula.
USE: Useful as an aldose reductase inhibitor. Active for the prevention or treatment of diabetic complications caused by the aldose reductase, such as angiophathy, retinopathy, diabetic cataract, nerve damages and renal disorders.
PREPARATION: Since the compound of the formula is mainly contained in the bark of a Cryptomeria plant in the Taxodiales, the bark is immersed in an organic solvent such as chloroform, ethyl acetate, acetone or methanol and extracted, and the extract is concentrated to provide a resin fraction which is utilized as such or after purified with a silica gel chromatography.
