Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a novel compound useful as the feeding stuff of animals, particularly piglets and cattle and showing the effect of promoting the growth of animals.
CONSTITUTION: This compund is an elfamycin derivative represented by the formula. The compound can be obtained by aerobically fermenting a microorganism (CBS Deposit No.473.89) belonging to Streptomyces or its mutant. The fermentation method comprises e.g. culturing the strain on an agar medium, carrying out inoculation and fermentation by use of a fermentor and passing the fermented liquor through a column of a duolite resin, etc., to purify it. The elfamycin derivative of the formula promotes the growth of animals with showing no or slight antibiotic effect.
