NEW MATERIAL:The fluorine-containing bisphenol derivative of formula I (R is H, F, methyl or trifluoromethyl).
USE: Useful as a raw material for useful fluorine-containing polymer and as a crosslinking agent for improving the properties of various polymeric compounds such as fluororesin, olefinic polymer and paraffinic polymer. The polymer produced by using the compound as a crosslinking agent has excellent thermal and chemical stability, mechanical characteristics, water-repellency, oil- repellency, lubricity and weather resistance and is useful in various fields such as paint, coating agent, adhesive, optical material, medical material and building material.
PREPARATION: The compound of formula I can be produced e.g. by reacting glycidyl methacrylate or glycidyl acrylate of formula II with 2,2-bis(4- hydroxyphenyl)hexafluoropropane or its alkali metal salt at 0W150°C optionally in the presence of a solvent and a catalyst.
