Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a novel fluorine-containing copolymer usuful as a surface modifier or the like by polymerization of a (polyfluoroalkyl)ethylene monomer and a vinyl ester monomer at a specific ratio.
CONSTITUTION: The title copolymer consists of 0.1-70mol% units obtained by polymerization of a (polyfluoroalkyl)ethylene monomer and 30-99.9mol% units obtained by polymerization of a vinyl ester monomer, and has a number-average mol.wt. of 200-100,000. A preferred (polyfluoroalkyl)ethylene monomer is a compound with a perfluoroalkyl group bonded to the C-C unsaturated double bond, which is represented by CH2=CHCnF2n+1 (n is 2 to 20). The vinyl ester monomer is an organic acid ester of vinyl alcohol, and represented by RCOOCH=CH2 (R is a monovalent hydrocarbon group with one or more carbon atoms). The polymerization is performed, for example, by using a conventional radical polymerization initiator, γ rays, and the like.
