Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I [R is H, alkali metal, alkaline earth metal or lower alkyl(ammonium)].
EXAMPLE: 3-Hydroxy-4-[4'-(4"-trifluoromethylphenoxy)phenoxy]-pentanoic acid.
USE: Herbicide especially effective to the weeds of Gramineae, such as cockspur- grass, oats, etc.
PROCESS: A compound of formula II is reacted with pref. equimolar amount of a compound of formula BrCH2COOR (R is lower alkyl) pref. in an inert solvent such as ether, benzene, n-hexane, etc., in the presence of zinc powder or zinc amalgam, at 36W130°C for 0.5W24hr.
