To obtain a novel homolog of camptothecin, to provide a production method therefor, its use as a medicine and a medicinal formulation containing the same.

The present invention relates to disclosure of the homolog of camptothecin characterized in that a hydroxylactone of camptothecin is a β-hydroxylactone or a corresponding β-hydroxy acid or a derivative of the β-hydroxy acid or a medicinally allowable salt of the β-hydroxy acid that is obtained by ring opening of the β-hydroxylactone. The present invention relates particularly to compounds represented by formulae (I) and (II). In addition, the present invention relates to methods for producing the compounds represented by formulae (I) and (II) such as 5-ethyl-4, 5-dihydro-5-hydroxy-1H-oxepine[3", 4", 6, 7]indolizino[1, 2b]quinoline-3, 15[4H, 13H]dione, the medicinal formulation containing the compounds and its use, especially a use as a topoisomerase suppressor and an antineoplastic agent.
