Phenols of the formula I (1) wherein n has a value from 1 to 15, each of R1, R2, R3 and R4 independently is a hydrogen atom, a C1- 18-alkyl group, an aryl group, a C5-C12-cycloalkyl group or a C7-C13-aralkyl group, R5 is a hydrogen atom or a C1-C18-alkyl group, Y is a carbonyl, thiocarbonyl, sulphinyl, sulphonyl, -P(OR7)-, -P(=O) (OR7)-, -P(=O) (R7)- or -P(R7)- group, and R6 is a radical -CHR8-CHR9-S-CR10R11R12, wherein each of R8 and R9 independently is a hydrogen atom or a C1-C6-alkyl group, R10 is a hydrogen atom, a C1-C19-alkyl group, a C2-C4-alkenyl group or an aryl group, R11 is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group and R12 is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, or, if R11 is a hydrogen atom, is a C2-C6-alkyl group, or, if R10 is a hydrogen atom, R11 and R12 together with the carbon atom to which they are attached represent a cycloalkyl group, or R10, R11 and R12 together with the carbon atom to which they are attached represent an aryl group, or if Y is a thiocarbonyl, sulphinyl or sulphonyl group, R6 can also be a hydrogen atom or a C1-C18-alkyl group or an aryl group, and R7 is a hydrogen atom, a C1-C18-alkyl group or an aryl group, as stabilizers for organic material.
