Abstract:

To obtain a novel compound which has a 1,2,4,5-diimide structure bearing an N,N-substituted group and is useful as a raw material of a functional polymer capable of giving a polyaryl ether into which desired functional groups can be introduced and which has excellent processability and solubility.

This novel compound is represented by formula I {A is the formula:-R1-Z-Y [R1 is a 0-30C alkyl, aralkyl or phenyl; Z is a direct bond, CH2, S, O, NH; Y is methyl, the formula: OR3 (R3 is a 1-30C alkyl), a group of the formula: SR3]; X is a halogen, nitro}, typically N,N-diphenyl-3,6- dichloro-1,2,4,5-diimide. The compound of formula I is prepared by reaction of a compound of formula II with an amine of the formula: NH2-A. The reaction of the compound of formula I with a compound of the formula: HO-Z'-OH (Z' is a difunctional organic group, for example, a (hetero) aromatic ring or an aliphatic hydrocarbon chain affords a polymer of the formula III ((n) is 10-800).
