Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an economical resource of novel biodegradable plastics.
SOLUTION: A method for constructing polyester biopolymers in an organism, comprises the steps of: selecting an organism for expression of genes encoding enzymes required for synthesis of polyhydroxybutyrate, introducing into the organism isolated structural genes encoding polyhydroxybutyrate polymerases in combination with regulatory sequences for expression of the genes in the organism, and providing appropriate substrates for the expressed enzymes to synthesize polyhydroxybutyrates.
