PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as an intermediate for drugs, by reducing a novel 2-phenyl-5-substituted-2,3-dihydro-1,5-benzothiazepine-3,4(5H)- dione, etc. with a boron hydride compound.
CONSTITUTION: A cis-2-phenyl(or 2-substituted phenyl)-3-hydroxy-5-substituted-2,3- dihydro-1,5-benzothiazepine-4(5H)-one shown by the formula I or its acid addition salt is obtained by three methods wherein a novel compound shown by the formula VII (X is H, or halogen; R1WR3 are H, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, etc.; R4 is alkyl, etc.) or its acid addition salt is reduced with a boron hydride compound, or a novel compound shown by the formula VIII (group shown by the formula IIis N,N-dialkylamino when n is 1W6) is treated with an acid, or a compound shown by the formula IX is reacted with an alkyl sulfate or an alkyl halide in the presence of an alkali.
