Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a novel pyrazinium salt compound which is useful as a novel polymerization initiator that can cure cationically polymerizable compounds at low temperature in shortened time and gives excellent properties to the cured products.
CONSTITUTION: A pyrazinium salt compound of the formula (R1 is alkyl substituted with aromatic ring, alkenyl which may be substituted with aromatic ring; R2-R5 are H, alkyl, halogen, nitro, cyano, alkoxy, phenyl which may be substituted or alkoxycarbonyl, R2 and R3, R4 and R5 may be incorporated to form a condensed aromatic ring, respectively; X is SbF6, AsF6, PF6, BF6), for example, N-benzylpyrazinium hexafluoroantimonate. The pyrazinium compound of the formula I is obtained, for example, by reaction of equimolar amounts of an α-substituted benzyl halide such as α-phenethyl bromide, 1-halo-3- substituted-2-butene or halomethylnaphthalene and a pyrazine derivative or quinoxaline derivative followed by reaction with sodium hexafluoro-antimonate.
