NEW MATERIAL:A pyrazolone compound of formula I (wherein R1 and R2 are each a group of formula II or III, R an R' are each H, alkyl or aryl, Q1 and Q2 are each aryl, X1 and X2 are bonding groups, Y1 and Y2 are each sulfo or carboxyl, L1, L2 and L3 are each methyl, L4 and L5 are each alkylene, m1 and m2 are each 1 or 2, n is 0, 1 or 2, p1 and p2 are each 0 or 1, q2 is 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4 and s1 and s2 are each 1 or 2).
EXAMPLE: A compound of formula IV.
USE: A dye featured by exhibiting stability and low residual color when used as a dye for photographic materials, i.e., filter dyes, anti-irradiation dyes and antihalation dyes.
PREPARATION: A compound of formula I is produced by condensing a compound of formula IV with a compound of formula V in the presence of a base. In these formulas, R1, Q1, X1, Y1, L1, L2, L3, L4, m1, n, p1, q1 and s1 are as defined above, and Z is H, nitro or a halogen.
