To obtain the subject novel compound that is produced by a microorganism which is parasitic to yew (Taxus cuspidata), has excellent immunosuppressant activity and vascularization inhibitory activity with reduced cytotoxicity.
This novel compound is represented by the formula and has the following chemical and physical properties: description; white and oily; molecular formula; C15H23O3; mass spectrum; (FABHRMS): the observed value 251.1652, the calculated value: 251.1647 (as C12H23O3 ([M+H]-H2O). This compound is obtained, for example, by aerobically culturing OHHE IA strain isolated from a yew tree in Asahikawa city of Hokkaido Japan (FERM P 16392) in an enriched culture medium. In a preferred embodiment, this microorganism is statically cultured in a liquid culture. In the culture, the pH of the medium is made neutral and the culture is carried out at 15-25°C for 18-24 hours. The objective compound accumulated in the culture medium is recovered by separating the cell bodies by usual solid-liquid separation means as filtration or centrifugation and extracting the filtrate and the supernatant.
