PURPOSE: To provide the title composition giving a high-gloss printed face with a short setting time without misting, by compounding a resin obtained by modifying a hydrocarbon resin having a specific structure with an unsaturated carboxylic acid, a phenolic resin, etc., with a solvent and a drying oil.
CONSTITUTION: A varnish composition composed of (A) 100pts.wt. of a resin having a softening point of ≥100°C and an acid value of 5W50 and obtained by (1) reacting (a) 100 parts of a hydrocarbon resin obtained by polymerizing a compound of the formula (R is 1W3C alkyl; m+n=6) and/or its Diels-Alder addition product with (b) 1W15 parts of an unsaturated carboxylic acid, etc., (2) esterifying the reaction product with a ≥6C monohydric alcohol, and (3) reacting 5W100wt%, based on the ester resin obtained above, of a phenolic resin derived from a phenol having a 4W9C alkyl substitution group and formaldehyde, with the ester resin, (B) 50W200pts.wt. of a solvent having a boiling point of 200W350°C, and (C) 10W100pts.wt. of a drying oil.
