Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the retaining capability of fission product gas not inferior to conventional case, make the pellets have high density, accelerate creep characteristics and be superior in PCI performance. SOLUTION: When this pellet is formed by adding Gd2 O3 to oxide fuel containing nuclear fuel material and sintering it, the crystal grain is given average grain diameter in the rage of 20 μm or less. The most part of the grain boundary is to be coated with alminacilicate layer having components of SiO2 of 50 to 80 wt.% of glass or grain matter occupying 100 to 2500 ppm in the whole weight of nuclear fuel and remaining Al2 O3 and to be given porosity of 1 to 4 vol%.
