Abstract:
To detect nuclear material with high accuracy using a small device.SOLUTION: A positional relation between a neutron beam source 10 and a sample S is determined by phase (angle) of the rotation of a disk 20. A rotation shaft 20A of the disk 20 is driven by a motor, and the rotation is controlled by a computer 40. The output of a neutron detector 30 is also outputted to the computer 40. The computer 40 recognizes a change of count number along with the rotation of the disk 20. Rotation of the disk 20 changes a distance between the neutron beam source 10 and the sample S, this motion moves the neutron beam source 10 to be symmetrical before/after the distance is the smallest, and then, a change is detected in count number of neutrons generated from the sample S with the neutron detector 30. The presence/absence of the nuclear material in the sample S is determined based on a difference between a count number before a state where the distance is the smallest and a count number after the state where the distance is the smallest.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
