To provide an improved grid having springs and dimples to minimize fretting wear between the grid and a fuel rod.
The improved grid comprises a plurality of straps 42 and 42' connected in a lattice, with a plurality of mixing vanes 104 being provided on the straps 42 and 42' and being arranged such that the hydraulic forces on the mixing vanes 104 generally cancel one another out. Each strap includes a spring 138 and a pair of dimples 162 and 166. The spring 138 includes a contoured spring embossment 150 having a greater radius of curvature in a relaxed condition than the radius of a fuel rod. Each dimple includes a similarly configured contoured dimple embossment 180. The spring embossment 150 is mounted on a pair of legs that extend nonlinearly between the first plate 94 and the second plate 98 to increase compliance thereof.
