To provide a nurse call system which can detect a wandering patient with serious dementia who has so low a physical ability as to lack in physical strength enough to straddle a bed fence and so draws out the bed fence to escape from a bed, wherein the patient who has failed in trying to escape can be prevented from falling down from the bed.

A nurse call system includes: a bed fence 51 mounted on a bed side to prevent a patient from falling down; and a bed fence sensor 4 for detecting that the bed fence 51 has been drawn out of the bed and then transmitting a detection signal, wherein a nurse call base unit gives an alarm sound when the bed fence is drawn out.
