PURPOSE: To provide a nursing apparatus of a compact structure, operable with light force, for assisting the aged and handicapped in taking a bath or the like.

CONSTITUTION: An apparatus is provided with a base 3 placed on the floor, a stanchion 5 set upright at the rear part of the base 3, a lift block 7 slidable vertically along the stanchion 5, a seat 50 joined with the lift block 7, and a hoiting unit 20 installed on the top end of the stanchion 5. The hoisting unit 20 is provided with a pulley with which one end of a hoisting rope is joined while the other end of the hoisting rope is joined with the lift block 7, a handle for hoisting operation, a reduction gear for transmitting rotation power applied to the handle to the pulley, and a ratchet for preventing the reverse rotation of the pulley during a hoisting operation.
