Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL:The titled compound of the formula, and its salt.
USE: An antibacterial, effective against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, e.g. Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumonia, Proteus vulgaris, Proteus stuartii, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and administered intravenously, intramuscularly, intraperitoneally or subcutaneously, i.e. parenterally, or orally for intestinal sterilization or in the form of a suppository.
PROCESS: Seldomycin factor 5 is subjected to O-demethylation on lithium (wire) in the presence of ethylamine to give the titled compound. An acyl derivative of the formula (R3 is COR4) is reacted with a boron trihalogenide, e.g. boron tribromide.
