NEW MATERIAL:O-diisocyanobenzenes of formula I (R1 and R2 are H, halogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, lower alkoxycarbonyl or R1 and R2 together form a naphthalene ring; R1 and R2 are not H at the same time).
EXAMPLE: 3,4-Diisocyanotoluene.
USE: A raw material for electrically conductive polymer having improved thermal stability and stable even at room temperature.
PREPARATION: The compound of formula I can be produced in high yield, by reacting formamides of formula II with a dehydration agent such as phosgene, phosgene-generating agent, thionyl chloride or phosphorus oxychloride, preferably phosgene or phosgene-generating agent, especially phosgene-generating agent in the presence of a basic amine, preferably an organic tertiary amine such as trimethylamine, triethylamine or pyridine.
