PURPOSE: To obtain the subject compound that is represented by a specific formula, shows improved herbiocidal properties against non-true grasses in true grass crop plants such as rice plant, corn and the like and is useful as a herbicide.
CONSTITUTION: The objective compound is represented by formula I [R1 and R2 are each a 1-6C alkyl; R3 is a (substituted) phenyl, a 1-4C alkyl, a 3-4C alkenyl, alkynyl or the like; R4 is a 1-4C alkoxy-1-6C alkyl, a 1-4C alkylthio-1-6C alkyl], typically 2-[1-{2-[2-(4-chloro-phenoxy)ethoxyimino]propoxyimino}butyl]-3- hydroxy-5-(2H-tetrahydrothiopyranyl-3-)-2-cyclohexenone-1. This compound is obtained, for example, by reaction of a cyclohexenone of formula II with O-(oxyimino)ethylhydroxylamine (its hydrochloride) in an inert solvent such as dimethyl sulfoxide in the presence of a base.
