Scanning in the vertical directions and to the right and the left in a probeable region with a proving wave is enabled; thereby a scanning pattern such as a scanning period, a scanning direction or the like and a scanning region can be set freely; and proper information can be always acquired, for example, an object can be specified by acquiring detailed information of the detected object. The probing region and the scanning pattern are set, corresponding to the probe result up to the last time, and thereby scanning patterns such as the scanning period, the scanning direction or the like and the scanning region can be set properly. Detailed probe in a vast range is not required at all times, namely, a processing device is no longer required to be enlarged or complicated. In addition, this object detection device is installed on the front end part in the moving direction of a moving body, such as a vehicle or the like to detect an object in the moving direction, and thereby proper information at the running time can easily be acquired.
