Abstract:

To provide an object recognition device capable of detecting objects with high accuracy.

Whereas sets of distance measurement data contained in the same search area are integrated to generate a set of target data to perform object recognition, the Y direction (the traveling direction of a vehicle) of this search area is set with reference to the distance over which the device-equipped vehicle travels during the sampling period. As an object long extending in the direction along the road (traveling direction) or targets consecutive in that direction is or are recognized as the same object or objects, it is possible to correctly distinguish a roadside object, such as a guardrail, and vehicles running ahead, from each other. The length in the X direction (the direction of the vehicle width) is set to be a length equivalent to one or two adjoining horizontal beams. If given objects are distant from each other in the direction of the vehicle width, sets of distance measurement data on those separate objects are not integrated. Namely, not only a vehicle running ahead and a roadside object but also vehicles running ahead themselves can be correctly distinguished from each other instead of being integrated by mistake.
