This object recognizing method in the constant speed traveling system for the automobile is characterized by including a lane shape detecting stage for detecting the shape of a lane, a stage of recognizing the shape of the object located in front of the vehicle by utilizing two distance data after the distance data up to the object located in front of the vehicle is detected from two sensors installed in the vehicle, a stage of judging whether or not the shape of the lane and the shape of the object coincide each other, and a stage of recognizing the object as a stationary object if judging the coincidence of the shape of the lane and the shape of the object.
