PURPOSE: To clean an objective lens by moving an objective lens for just the amount which it exceeds a tracking range at the time of normal recording and reproduction at a preliminarily set timing, and sliding on the cleaning part provided outside the field of vision during the normal recording and reproduction time of the objective less to the surface of the objective lens.
CONSTITUTION: A brush 15 is implanted at an inside wall position of a cover 11 which is on the tracking direction of an objective lens 1 and does not cut off the field of vision of the objective lens 1. Also, the objective lens 1 can be moved in a range ±θ2 further than the tracking range when executing the normal recording and reproduction. And a tracking signal is supplied to a track ing coil while giving a focus signal, and the objective lens 1 is turned to a range within θ2. Then, the lens surface of the objective lens 1 is slided out by the brush 15, the dust on the lens surface is dispersed into the air and most of it sticks to the double-coated adhesive tape 16. Thus, the cleaning of the lens surface of the objective lens can be executed very easily without removing the external parts of the device.
