Abstract:
PURPOSE: To detect the presence of occupants of a vehicle accurately and control an auxiliaty machinery accurately based on the accurate crew detection informa tion.
CONSTITUTION: A rader device 12 emits electromagnetic beams toward heads of the occupants on a vehicle to detect the heads of the occupants so that the presence of the occupants is judged by the detection of the heads of the occupants. Moreover, radar devices 42, 43 emit electromagnetic beams toward a seat pad inside a seat cushion of the vehicle to detect the amount of deformation of the seat pad which is changed by load. The presence of the occupants is judged by the amount of deformation of the seat pad.
