Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide an occupant restraining system for the driver's side of an automobile having a gas bag and a knee protector incorporated into a steering wheel.
CONSTITUTION: A steeing wheel 24 is installed in a tubular steering shaft part 18, and a gas generator 42 is mounted inside the steering shaft part. A passage demarcated by the steering shaft part 18 is directly opened in a gas bag 26 folded up in the steering wheel. A knee protector is composed of a gas cushion 38. The gas cushion is expanded via the passage communicating with the inside of the steering shaft part 18.
