PURPOSE: To obtain the composition for a perfume composition or the like used in all applications by mixing derivatives of 3-tert-butylcyclohexanol and 3-tert-butylcyclohexane with a natural or synthesized odorant substance.

CONSTITUTION: The perfume composition containing a compound of formula I [X is C=O, CH-OR (R is H, COCH3, CO-CH=CH2, or the like), C=N-OH, formula II (T is CN or CHO), group of formula III or the like; cis/trans ratio in the isomers of formula I is 65 to 95:35 to 5] is obtained by catalytically hydrogenating a 3-tert-butyl-phenol in an autoclave using a Raney nickel as a catalyst under a hydrogen pressure and if necessary accordingly esterifying the obtained 3-tert-butylcyclohexanol or deriving from a 3-tert-butyl cyclohexanone to ketal or the like.
