To provide an oil content detector constituted so as to surely detect oil components suspended in water, by applying fluorescent spectral measurement to quantify the same.
Water to be detected is sampled by a water-sampling device 100 to be introduced into a sample water tank 4. The sample water, introduced into the sample water tank 4, is irradiated with a light of a wavelength region for exciting the fluorescence of oil by an exciting light irradiation means 5, and the fluorescence emitted from the oil suspended in the sample water accompanied by the irradiation with the exciting light is measured by a fluorescence detecting means 6. The oil content is detected, on the basis of the intensity of fluorescence which is measured by the fluorescence detecting means 6, by a control arithmetic means 7.
