Abstract:

To reserve oil in the lower part of a cover member, and to regulate increase of oil level of an oil sump for lubrication by passing a driving force transmitting member in the reserved oil.

The power transmitting member (driving chain 17 for oil pump) moving in a plane along one end surface of an engine 1 while rotating is shielded from the outside by a cover member (chain cover 22) mounted to one end surface of the engine 1, and oil flowing down on the inner surface of the cover member is returned to the inside of an oil pan 9 disposed in the lower part of the engine while the oil being supplied to the power transmitting member. Oil sumps 28 and 29 for collecting surplus of the oil dropping downward are disposed in at least one of the engine 1 and the cover member, and an oil returning passage 30 for returning the oil collected in the oil sumps 28 and 29 to the oil pan 9 is disposed on one end surface of the engine 1.
