To provide an oil-impregnated filter material and a filter element, with an easy structure, excellent in capturing performance of carbon dust in particular, long in life, capable of preventing permeation of dust even for intake pulsation of an engine and capable of recovering the filtration performance by air blow.

A nonwoven fabric of multi-layer structure is used for the oil-impregnated filter material, wherein a comparatively coarse oil-repellent layer is arranged at the upper flow side, a comparatively dense oil-impregnated layer is arranged at the lower flow side, movement to the dense layer part of the oil, coated/impregnated at the coarse layer part arranged at the upper flow part, is promoted to dry the coarse layer part, and the carbon dust is captured by the dried coarse layer part in particular.
