To achieve a simple and compact configuration, reduce the size of an oil pump and improve pump efficiency of the oil pump by preventing rotation of the oil pump at excessive rotating speed, in an oil pump drive device for an engine enabling input of rotating power of the engine to a rotating member stored in a pump housing of the oil pump via a power transmission means.
The oil pump drive device for the engine is provided with a power transmission-blocking switching means 18A for switching a state of transmitting rotating power from the power transmission means 15A to the rotating member 13A while rotational frequency of the rotating power transmitted from the engine E to the power transmission means 15A is lower than predetermined rotational frequency and a state of blocking the rotating power transmission from the power transmission means 15A to the rotating member 13A when the rotational frequency of the rotating member 13A exceeds the predetermined rotational frequency.
