To provide an oil pump drive unit capable of suitably feeding working oil by driving an oil pump even when the working oil has high viscosity.
The oil pump drive unit comprises an engine, a torque converter having an input shaft connected to the engine and an output shaft connected to a transmission, a first power transmission passage capable of transmitting the output of the engine into the oil pump, a second power transmission passage capable of transmitting the output of the torque converter into the oil pump, a passage switching mechanism capable of selectively switching the passage between the first power transmission passage and the second power transmission passage, an oil temperature sensor capable of detecting the temperature of the working oil, and an oil temperature switching control unit for controlling the switching of the passage switching mechanism based on the detected temperature of the working oil. When the detected temperature of the working oil is lower than a set temperature, the oil temperature switching control part performs switching to the second power transmission passage (S3). When the detected temperature of the working oil is not less than a set temperature, the oil temperature switching control part performs switching to the first power transmission passage (S4).
