To select and attach a buffer plate having best compatibility in relation to an oil seal and a machine to which the oil seal is attached by attaching buffer plates having the different shapes and different materials to the oil seal.
An internal thread 8 is provided on the inner side of a peripheral wall-shaped turn-up part 10 of an oil seal 1, and an external thread 16 is provided on the outer periphery of a buffer plate 2. The buffer plate 2 is detachably attached to the oil seal 1 by screwing the external thread 16 to the internal thread 8, and a change of the buffer plate 2 is facilitated. A space between the buffer plate 2 and the oil seal 1 is sealed by screwing parts of the internal thread 8 made of a synthetic resin and the external thread 16 and fitting parts of a lip 14 of the buffer plate 2 and a shaft 4, a lubricant is filled, and therefore, abrasion of a lip 6 on the oil seal 1 side is prevented, simultaneously, cutting oil and chips are prevented from striking on the oil seal 1.
